From Mezebizh to Beitar: A Legacy of Love
You are cordially invited to participate in a historical event. On Tuesday March 12th 3:00-5:00PM EST there will be a live broadcast (follow link) of a dynamic presentation in Beitar Illit, Israel highlighting the unbelievable and miraculous history of the Hornisteipol Chassidic community.
If you haven’t already heard of this unique place, it can be described as one of the only true manifestations of the Baal Shem Tov's boundless Ahavat Yisrael in the world today.
This is going to be an unpresedented and fascinating event during which you will see videos and speakers recounting the journey of the chassidut from its roots; the Baal Shem Tov from the city of Mezebizh, who taught that Judaism is not an elitist and exclusive religion only for the pedegreed and learned, rather that each and every jew has his unique purpose and connection with Hashem.
Follow the story through generations of his great talmidim in Europe up until the miraculous escape of Rabbi and his family before the eruption of the wars that tore apart European Jewry. Rabbi Yehudah Leib ztz"l settled in the spiritual wasteland of America in the middle of the 20th century. Under his tutelage his grandson, the previous Rebbe Rabbi Shlomo Twerski ztz"l continued the Baal Shem Tov's legacy teaching lost and unobservant Jews about Hashem and his Torah before anybody even dreamed of a Kiruv Movement (not to mention his duties and Rav of the city of Denver, acting as a lighthouse for the people in this difficult time for Jews in America). Finally learn about the Rebbe, close student and son-in-law of the previous Rebbe ztz"l whose own roots also reach back to Mezebizh and the great talmidim of the Baal Shem Tov, and his arrival in Eretz Yisroel almost forty years ago. There he established a beacon of light, a warm and loving home available to Jews coming to find their roots in the Holy Land.
The Rebbe and Rebbetzin have only compounded their efforts with time and one can almost not believe the energy that they invest for any Jew who needs assistance. The Rebbe has a deep and profound knowledge of the Torah. From the Talmud, to the Zohar and Chassidic teachings, he is a wellspring of wisom and guidance for many hundreds of Jews from all walks of life. He gives many classes in both English and Yiddish that are open to the public at large.
The highlight of these classes is his famous Thursday Night Class (now running for over 35 years) which takes place in English in his living room from 9:30 at night until after 3:00 in the morning. This class has provided English speaking Jews, thirsting to quench their spiritual thirst, with an otherwise inaccessible source of the depth and beauty of the life that once was in Europe and for thousands of years.
Additionally the Rebbe is a source of direction for anybody who needs it. He has may visitors from across Israel and throughout Chutz L'Aretz coming to him weekly for counselling in personal matters as well as direction in spirital matters. It is well known that the Rebbe's heart is open to help each and every individual as if he was helping his own child. His advice is precious and his tefillos even more so.
The only other person who has a heart to match the Rebbe's is the Rebbetzin. If anybody is seeking insight, an attentive ear or just a hot meal, the door is always open. The Shabbos meals in the Rebbe and Rebbetzin's home are not to be missed. The plethora of delicious Shabbos delicacies, painstakingly and lovingly prepared by the Rebbetzin from scratch (she is up all night in the kitchen as the Rebbe gives his Thursday night class) sets an uplifting stage for Torah and Zemirot of the Shabbos Tish. Each and every guest, expected or drop-in, is received with a smile and over the years countless Jews have felt that Hornisteipol is their true home.
Those who do not know the Rebbetzin from her home, certainly know her from her classes. Throughout the week she travels to many cities and neighbourhoods including The Old City, Ramot, Har Nof and others in order to spread the teachings of her Father the previous Rebbe ztz"l. Her mesirus nefesh for every Jew is limitless as she finds time in an unbelivable way to nourish both their body and soul as well as being a pillar of support in her own home as a mother and grandmother bli ein harah.
After almost forty years in Jerusalem the Hornisteipol community has taken a leap of emunah in an attempt to more effectively reach even more precious souls. The community has grown to include many more additions to the team who are following the leadership of the Rebbe and Rebbetzin spreading Torah and Chesed. They are expanding and building a beautiful shul to facilitate their relentless efforts, and this is an occasion to reflect on the past and look forward to a shining future. The arrival of this new Shul in Beitar has created excitement across the city as the neigbouring residents flocking to this new hotspot of growth in their midst. This incredible presentation is an opportunity that cannot be missed to experience the story of this amazing community.
So if you ever find yourself in Israel with no home, no money, thirsting for Torah and needing some Yiddishe warmth, stop into the Hornisteipol Community in Beitar Illit, but in the mean time be sure to tune into this event which will be broadcasted with a live feed directly from the Holy Land.
