Dear friend,
I’m writing this letter now as a father, but the situation at hand actually starts when I was born. Neither of my parents were mentally healthy, and eventually they got divorced. The divorce was very messy and I was caught between two worlds in an all-too-familiar and frightening scenario. I don’t want to go into length here, especially since much of this story is not suitable to be written down.
Throughout my childhood and teenage years, I was in the foster care system and I went from household to household, suffering one emotional crisis after another. Yet, somehow, with Hashem’s help, I made it through. I had to do a lot of therapy and rehabilitation, but it was all worth it. Baruch Hashem, I got married and have since had 8 children. I have been supporting my family by being a Rebbe at a prestigious Jewish school.
However, in the recent years my marriage started falling apart. All of my previous emotional problems resurfaced, and it became so unbearable for both of us, that my wife and I decided to get divorced.
Before we could get a divorce from the beis din, we had to speak to various people (counselors, Rabbanim, etc.), and they’ve determined where the root of the problem lies. A small group of experts have put together a therapy program that we could do to repair our marriage, but it will cost a lot of money to implement the program.
Since we don’t have the funds to do the recommended therapy, we don’t know how we can stay married. I am worried about the emotional well-being of my children if we get divorced. I really want them to flourish and grow and bring nachas to me and my wife, but we’re at a crossroads. We need the money to go to marriage therapy, but my small income as a teacher is hardly enough to cover our main expenses.
Please help me so that my family can stay together and be happy. That is all I want. If you could donate even a little bit to help me, I would be so grateful. Every dollar counts!
