Hatzalah in Orlando For Pesach

Over the past decade, many families from across the globe have chosen so spend Pesach in Orlando, Florida. With the numbers growing from year to year, Orlando during Pesach, turns into a Heimishe metropolis and along with it, comes the need to be able to call for emergency medical assistance in the time of need.

Being that this is needed only for 12 days a year, logistically it is not feasible to establish a full-fledged Hatzalah organization with all the bells and whistles. However, as we are Rachmonim Bnei Rachmonim and we are so used to the Chessed we have at home, 4 years ago, a small group of 3 Hatzalah members (all from different cities) decided to organize a system to help fellow Yidden in their time of need while in the Orlando area for Pesach.  Note this is not an official Hatzalah organization, this is a group of dedicated Hatzalah members from all around the country who are also on vacation in Orlando and are offering to assist in an emergency as Good Samaritans until the local 911 ambulance arrives and can transport the patient to the hospital.

With no funds or sophisticated communication equipment, a hotline was established, along with an app that works similar to Nextel radios, for members to be able to communicate with each other. Three years ago, it grew by leaps and bounds. This year approximately 70 Hatzalah members are part of this network, covering more than 10 resorts (developments) and 4 hotels! Last year, there was an average of 5 calls a day, some serious that required Fire Department Paramedic intervention and transport to a local hospital.

This year we expect many families to be in the Orlando area and have already begun to set up an even more sophisticated communication system to be able to communicate with all the Hatzalah members. We also are bringing in and purchasing more medical equipment, oxygen tanks, and supplies for the members that are flying in vs driving, and cannot bring in their equipment from their home city.

We tried to keep our budget as low as possible while at the same time not compromising on the proper equipment, supplies and logistics needs. We are therefore turning to you, as a visitor to the Orlando area for Pesach, to help us help you in a case of an emergency Chas V’shalom.

Our goal thus far is $10,000.00 - every dollar helps, so if we can get at least an $18 CHAI donation from each family, we hopefully will be able to cover our minimal expenses.
